Atlas Ruakaka

On Tuesday the 30th June 2009 Atlas Concrete supplied 315m3 of concrete for the base of Hopper Developments new Loch at their Marsden Cove marina project at One Tree Point, Northland.  The $3 million loch will be the largest residential Loch in Australasia and is being laid by Harlin Contractors and Advanced Concrete Pumps. The first load arrived on site at 7:00am and the 63rd load at 12:20pm giving an average spacing of just over 5 minutes.

On the day, seventeen of Atlas’s readymix trucks were used to feed the two large concrete pumps, one at each end of the base plus there was still time to sneak in some loads to other customers, maintaining our reputation of good service. Now the floor is in place, workers will start to erect the walls of the loch with shutters sourced by Cordite Construction, using a special mix, designed by Atlas’s engineer Sabina Sekerovic, assisted by the Ruakaka Depot Manager Craig Nisbet, Head of Northland Testing, James Collie and Project Manager, Wayne Herd (Cordite Construction). The team at Atlas Concretes’ newest depot in Ruakaka are currently supplying concrete and related materials for Hopper Developments $50 million project, “Marsden Cove”. Stage one consists of a world class 230 berth Marina, numerous water front properties, retail outlets, café, Bait and Tackle shop and the local Coastguard base.

Stage two will be opened up with the use of the loch. The loch and weir combination is being constructed by Cordite Construction to ensure deep water is maintained in the remainder of the project, without having to construct unusually deep cannels to allow for the Whangarei Harbour 4m tide range.

It will be fully automated with a sophisticated electronic switching system to manage sequencing between vessels going either way through the loch.

Vessels up to 25m in length will be able to access the upper reaches (Lake Side) of the development though the loch.
